Ottilie W. Roederstein

Ottilie Wilhelmine Roederstein was born in Zurich and trained in Zurich, Berlin and Paris. She settled in Frankfurt in 1891 and later in nearby Hofheim am Taunus with her partner, the surgeon Elisabeth Winterhalter. She became one of the most successful women portraitists of her time, exhibiting widely in Paris, Germany and Switzerland. Her work includes numerous self-portraits and commissioned portraits. She died in Hofheim in 1937, and the Städel Museum in Frankfurt holds a substantial group of her paintings.
