documenta

Documenta is an exhibition of contemporary art which takes place every five years in Kassel, Germany. Source: Wikipedia

Founded in 1955 by artist and curator Arnold Bode, documenta was conceived as part of Germany's post-war effort to reconnect with international modernism after the cultural isolation of the Nazi period. Held every five years in Kassel, it has since evolved from a rehabilitation project into one of the most consequential exhibitions in contemporary art — the so-called “museum of 100 days,” where each edition's thesis is allowed to mature for half a decade before a curator or collective unveils it on a city-scale stage.
