Prospect New Orleans

Prospect New Orleans is an international contemporary art triennial founded in 2008 by curator Dan Cameron as a cultural response to the destruction of Hurricane Katrina. Staged across dozens of museums, historic buildings, and public sites throughout New Orleans, the exhibition commissions ambitious new work and situates Southern, Caribbean, and diasporic voices at the center of the global contemporary conversation. Prospect operates on a roughly three-year cycle. Its editions have consistently paired internationally renowned artists with New Orleans-rooted practitioners, using the city's layered histories — of slavery, jazz, Creole culture, ecological fragility, and Black political imagination — as the exhibition's living context.

Founded in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Prospect New Orleans opened in 2008 as the largest biennial-scale exhibition of international contemporary art ever mounted in the United States. Across six editions it has become the defining Southern triennial — a recurring civic project that treats New Orleans not as a backdrop but as a co-author.
