Art in Madrid

The Prado, Reina Sofía and Thyssen-Bornemisza make the Paseo del Prado an art-trip anchor; leave room for the city between collections.

From Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport, Metro line 8 links Aeropuerto T1-T2-T3 and Aeropuerto T4 with Nuevos Ministerios, where you can change for central Madrid. Cercanías airport trains depart from T4, floor −1; if you arrive at another terminal, check the airport's transfer advice. EMT Airport Express 203 serves T1, T2 and T4, with city stops at O'Donnell, Cibeles and Atocha. Overnight the city terminus is Cibeles, not Atocha. Check current operator notices, fares and onward connections before choosing.

Group museum visits along the Paseo del Prado, then use Metro or EMT buses for other districts. Cercanías is useful for regional rail connections and the T4 airport station. Plan the exact journey with official operators; Metro, city buses, airport services and rail can have different ticket terms. Check step-free station access if you need it rather than assuming every interchange is accessible.

Barrio de las Letras / Huertas: A central base between the museum corridor and the old center; check your exact address and street noise before booking.

Paseo del Prado / Atocha: Choose this area to concentrate on the art triangle or arrive by rail at Atocha; compare the actual route from hotel to museum.

Sol / Plaza Mayor: A base for the historic center and dinner after the museums; the art corridor is a separate part of your daily route.

Use the restaurant entrance rather than assuming the museum's main door; confirm any admission requirement and access directly.

Day one: give the Prado an unhurried visit, then walk the Paseo del Prado and pause in Barrio de las Letras. Check the museum's current tickets and entrances.

Day two: visit Reina Sofía, then return to the center for a meal. Choose a focused collection route rather than promising yourself every gallery.

Day three: visit the Thyssen-Bornemisza and leave space for a second look at works that stayed with you. These are suggested days, not fixed bookings or confirmed openings.

Check each museum's own opening days, exhibition access and timed-entry terms before fixing the order of visits.

For an airport departure, allow for your terminal and any required transfer. The rail station is at T4, while Metro and Airport Express have different terminal stops.
