Art in Salvador
Salvador, capital of the state of Bahia, was founded in 1549 and was Brazil’s first capital. Its historic center has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985. For an art traveler the city offers colonial churches, two memorials to the novelist Jorge Amado, the Museum of Modern Art of Bahia on the Bay of All Saints, and a daily life shaped by Afro-Brazilian religion, music, and food.
