Art in Sapporo

Sapporo is the capital of Hokkaido, the northernmost of Japan’s four main islands, about a 1.5-hour flight from Tokyo. For an art traveler its anchor is Moerenuma Park, the 467-acre park designed by Isamu Noguchi. The city also keeps red-brick and timber buildings from its 19th-century founding years and stages a snow sculpture festival each February.
